stories told and songs sung

Life is full of stories and songs. By sharing them, maybe we see a little more clearly how we are all connected.

I grew up in Texas and then went off to college in Tennessee. There I met my future wife in a great story you'll have to hear someday. Med school was back in Texas. We got married during my 2nd year. After med school, it was on to Neurology residency in the Deep South. Now that I'm a full fledged neurologist, I'm just trying to balance it all with a new baby on the way...

A prayer for the passing ambulance

My attending and I went to see a patient the other day, a sweet elderly lady who had come into the hospital the night before. In talking to her, we discovered that she lives just down the road from where my attending lives. When that came up, my attending said, "hey, by chance did you come by ambulance to the hospital, about 8:00 last night?"

"Why, yes I did," said the sweet lady, "how did you know?"
"Well, when I heard the sirens pass my house last night, I wondered if it was someone sick, and I said a little prayer that he/she would be alright. And how funny is it that you were the one in the ambulance that I prayed for!"

So the next time you hear sirens passing by, don't forget to lift up a little prayer.
