stories told and songs sung

Life is full of stories and songs. By sharing them, maybe we see a little more clearly how we are all connected.

I grew up in Texas and then went off to college in Tennessee. There I met my future wife in a great story you'll have to hear someday. Med school was back in Texas. We got married during my 2nd year. After med school, it was on to Neurology residency in the Deep South. Now that I'm a full fledged neurologist, I'm just trying to balance it all with a new baby on the way...

"B" for Button

I made the mistake last night of leaving my laptop open. I came to it today and discovered something funny. See, we have a very curious cat named Button. In his curiosity, he climbed up and selectively plucked off the letter B from my keyboard. Each time I have had to type the letter B in this blog, I have had to pause and carefully push the remaining rubber bump. Funny how he would choose B for Button. Cats are pretty smart sometimes. Now if he would only tell me where he put that letter B...

Dreams

So I recently finished my neurology inservice exam. It was hard (8 hours, 450 questions) covering lots of things I've never heard of, and accordingly, we had spent lots of time studying in preparation for it.

Two days before the exam, I woke up in the middle of the night with one of those horrible Charley horses in my leg. I jumped out of bed to stretch it out. According to my wife, though, I also muttered something about having a glycogen storage disorder. She respoded with a "what are you talking about?" and I responded, "well if it's not that then it's an inherited muscular dystrophy." I have no recollection of saying any of this, but I don't doubt it to be true.

I'm just glad I can dream about something else now that the test is over.
